It’s a new year and there is lots going on in the first quarter.

2025 was a pretty good year for the club and Canadian rally in general. Coming up in the next three months we have the CARS AGM, our awards dinner, two SNATR’s, Rallye Perce Neige, MLRC’s Polar Bear and the RSO AGM. We’ve also added co-driving 101 on April 4.

It’s been an interesting winter in Southern Ontario with snow on the ground continuously since late November and cold weather interspersed with rain and freezing rain. It looks like more of the same this coming week which makes it difficult to have a couple of winter rallycross events. We’ll keep hoping though.

This months meeting includes elections, planning for the dinner, SNATR’s and performance rally. Meeting details are at the bottom of the newsletter.

In our old business section of the meeting Mark will be reviewing the finances for 2025 and suggesting any changes in our event fees.

Our membership fee remains at $30 and now is a good time to renew for 2026 if you haven’t already done so. If nothing has changed with your contact information there is no need to fill out the form, just send the $30 via Interac to treasurer@kwrc.on.ca, use a credit card via MSR or cash also works.

Murat’s hard work paid off with a really good video from Tall Pines, in fact all three of the Ontario based performance rallies got their own videos produced by Murat.

New business includes:

  • Our awards dinner on January 17. We have 36 people signed up so far and expect in the 60-70 range. Some are coming early to help with setup.
  • Our first SNATR of the year is Jan. 31, running from the Williams Cafe on King St. in Kitchener. Brandon has set out a route and we’ll be working to get the event put together.
  • The following week is Rallye Perce Neige, the Sup regs are out but no entry list yet.
  • The next weekend (Feb. 14) is MLRC’s Polar Bear all night drivex navigational rally. It will be HQ’d at the Limerick Community Centre just west of Hwy 62 about 22km south of Bancroft. There isn’t anything on the MLRC website yet, but soon will be I expect.
  • With some brainstorming a few of us have come up with a plan for a one day Co-driving 101 course. It involves a bit of classroom time, a little recce and stages complete with route book and timecards. Of course the stages are just public roads with the cars well below the posted limits using drivers who have already competed in performance rally. It’s just a very basic introduction to what happens on the day of the rally so it’s not too much of a shock when you at your first competition. Details are here and it’s scheduled for April 4 in Ingersoll.
  • The event calendar on the website has been updated and reflects most of the KW events for the year. Some entries are just placeholders until we have details worked out.
  • We still plan to have Rally of the Voyageurs on May 2, but I’m still waiting to hear back from the MNR, I can’t really start to book the hall or other things until I know we can have the date.
  • We’ll hold elections after the conclusion of the regular business. All the incumbents are willing to stand again.
  • The ad-hock committee to try and get easier rally car licensing has come up with a submission to the Ministry of Transport and will forwarding it to Minister Breese this coming week. There is no guarantee we’ll get want we want but with the hard work by Eric Vanderwal and Ian Wright put in I’m hoping it’ll get some traction. Eric is a master of putting together carefully thought out and crafted communications.
