Introduction to Rally Driving Techniques

The Kitchener-Waterloo Rally Club will be holding a day of RallyCross driving instruction at Humberstone Raceway, home of KWRC’s Rally Cross series. We’re still in the planning stages for this so some information might change (Sept. 29)

Meant to improve beginner and intermediate competitor skills, the day will introduce concepts that are basic to rally driving and then move to more advanced techniques. Classroom instruction will be put into practice at each step on dirt. Emphasis will be on track time under instructor supervision.

Students will use their own cars under simulated competition conditions in a safe and controlled learning environment. Helmets will be required. The instructor to student ratio will be low and allow for individualized attention.

Our instructors are experienced in two and four wheel drive. The day will start at 10:00 am and run until approximately 4:00 pm. A light lunch will be provided and modest washroom facilities are available. Students can also register for the regular rally cross event being held the next day.

More Details

Here is a list of what will be taught at the rallycross school. Talks will be indoors, exercises will be in student’s own cars on the dirt. Helmets will be required for track time. Speeds will start out slowly and build to competition level as skills and confidence increase.

We are anticipating that, with a ratio of 3 students to each instructor; one instructor and three students will try the exercises in one student’s car and then move to the next student and car and then to the third. Each student will have equal time on track under instructor supervision and all students will benefit from the instructors’ knowledge as they share successes.

As of this date, we have four instructors and anticipate that we can accommodate 12 students. The school will cost $75, a light lunch will be provided, washrooms will be available and the weather will be ……….. unpredictable.

Since this entire endeavor is a learning curve for all involved, some of this may change. Be assured, however, that we are keen to make this the best school that we can. We’ll update y’all when we can.
